Blend-o-licious endorsements...

The Christian Civic League of Maine's Mike Hein calls Pam's House Blend:
"a leading source of radical homosexual propaganda, anti-Christian bigotry, and radical transgender advocacy."

He is "praying that Pam Spaulding will "turn away from her wicked and sinful promotion of homosexual behavior." (CCLM's web site, 10/15/07)

Ex-gay "Christian" activist James Hartline on Pam:
"I have been mocked over and over again by ungodly and unprincipled anti-christian lesbians."
(from "Six Years In Sodom: From The Journal Of James Hartline," 9/4/2006, written from the "homosexual stronghold" of Hillcrest in San Diego).

"Pam is a 'twisted lesbian sister' and an 'embittered lesbian' of the 'self-imposed gutteral experiences of the gay ghetto.'" -- 9/5/2008

Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth Against Homosexuality heartily endorses the Blend, calling Pam:

A "vicious anti-Christian lesbian activist."
(Concerned Women for America's radio show [9:15], 1/25/07)

"A nutty lesbian blogger."
(MassResistance radio show [16:25], 2/3/07)

Pam's House Blend always seems to find these sick f*cks. The area of the country she is in? The home state of her wife? I know, they are everywhere. Pam just does such a great job of bringing them out into the light.

Utah State Senator compares bill he opposes to a black baby: calling it 'a dark, ugly thing'

by: Pam Spaulding

Yep, racism is dead. I love how for some public officials, it's as if the Id takes over or  the censor in their brains that determines what is or isn't asshattery just completely malfunctions. In what recesses of his depraved mind did Utah Republican (surprise!) State Sen. Chris Buttars pull this winner:
Republican Sen. Chris Buttars' comment came during a debate on SB48, aimed at equalizing school construction funds. Sen. Howard Stephenson, R-Draper, called it "the ugly baby bill," but, as Buttars stood to vote, went further. "This baby is black. It's a dark, ugly thing," he said.

Sen. Ross Romero, D-Salt Lake City, said he perceived the statement as offensive and took the issue to Senate leaders. "I felt it needed to be addressed and needed to be addressed promptly," he said.

Sen. John Valentine, R-Orem, said he was surprised by the comment.

"I didn't see it coming," he said. "I didn't take it as a racist remark, but the more I thought about it, the more I thought it was inappropriate and a breach of decorum."

Buttars agreed and felt bad about it and asked for a chance to apologize, Valentine said. After senators returned from a 10-minute break, Valentine noted the "breach in decorum," and gave Buttars the floor.

And drum roll please...the kind of asinine "apology" we've all become familiar with:
"I made a comment that I think a lot of people could take racist. I certainly did not mean that in any way but it was wrong and certainly could easily have been taken that way," Buttars said. "I apologize to anyone who took offense. . . . I ask for your forgiveness."
What way did he mean it? Help us out here, Buttars.

More fun with Chris Buttars.

H/t, ZZFan.

More fun with Buttars
You forgot to remind everyone he is the one behind Utah bill to prevent SLC providing dp benes.

"If they're going after this because a few gay people get benefits," she said, "they're not seeing the whole picture."
Wake up and smell the coffee people.

I know this is adolescent humor, but
I'm telling everyone today about the rep from UT called Chris Butt-Arse.  I bet his "closest" buddies call him Butter Butt.

I do give him credit for apparently rushing to make an apology rather than being dragged to it kicking and screaming.  But just once I'd like one of these supposed apologists to make a true gesture to demonstrate their good will.  Instead of saying "I'm sorry if you took that in a hurtful way", they should say "I sincerely apologize for not thinking before I spoke.  But I understand that my words of apology can only go so far.  So I humbly ask that you allow me to demonstrate my contrition and where my heart truly lies by [insert hand-on volunteer action that would directly benefit the aggrieved community]."  Such actions may also just be for show, but at least we'd get something useful out of the jerk!

after more thought
i think the hands-on work of contrition best suited to the guy might be picking up garbage with a jail gang along the highway.  this doesn't target the aggrieved group specifically, but it is a very public act, and he'd get to mingle with constituents that i'll bet he doesn't even know exist.

Unknown existance,
I think youare 100% correct.  Most Politicians are unaware of many people who live in their districts.  But it is not completely the politician's fault.  Many people don't know who thier local and state representatives and senators are, much less county and city commissioners.

If I make sense? it was quite by accident.

Let's run this down
Utah is Mormon.  Mormon's believe that black people exist as icons of the devil in contrast to the saintly white Mormons.
They only started allowing Blacks into the church in 1978.  The membership had to accept this change OVERNIGHT since it is against their religion to question church authority.  You can look to see how well instantaneous (political) changes in Mormonism are handled by the complete lack of polygamy which they 'banned' over 100 years ago (snark off).

Mormon's believe Jesus will return to Missouri.  They would still be headquartered there if they hadn't been such poor neighbors that they got ran off at gunpoint.  An entire mass of people with the insane religious devotion of Ned Flanders and a prosetylizetic zeal bordering on obnoxious.

That's the canvas on which the ugly black baby remarks were played.

Enjoy.

Mom always told me I was special and I believed her.

Brer Buttars and the Tar Baby
How could Buttars say that remark without being racist?  It's impossible.  It's the same with George Allen and Don Imus.

Listen to it

The Utah Legislature has the audio of its floor debates archived online - and it does a pretty good job of breaking down the audio by bill.  The audio from yesterday's floor session is accessible here.

The specific link to the debate on SB48 is here.  Its about an hour long and I haven't found the comment from Buttars yet; hopefully it wasn't sanitized. Of course, a few entries down from that is a link denoted "Breach of Decorum & Apology," so I'm guessing its still there.

OK, I'm going to take an unpopular stance
He did not say this bill is a black baby, it is a dark, ugly thing.  He said "This baby is black.  It's a dark, ugly thing"

Now, I have referred to a project, a hiccup, a thing as "this baby" (or this beast, or this bastard. . .) and then gone on to explain what a nasty little thing it is.  Dark/Black have been used to describe an evil or ugliness that is in no way associated or meant to be associated with anything racial.

Now I understand the man is from Utah and the racism exists and that it can be an ugly, nasty thing.  This being said, I have to give the man (as loathsome as he may be) the benefit of the doubt that he wasn't making any sort of racist comment.

I think, sometimes, that we may get carried away looking for a slight. . .

you could be right
the problem with these things is that no one really knows for sure.  his problem is that he has already proven himself to be a bigot (anti-gay at the least), so it makes it harder to give him the benefit of the doubt.  it's the old "if you cry wolf too many times..." thing.

I thought it could
go that way as well. Black meaning the absence of light which, in some religious backgrounds, could be seen as lacking virtue which would make it an ugly thing.

However, I do see why some would take offense and am glad it was addressed right away.
