The Christian Civic League of Maine's Mike Hein calls Pam's House Blend:
"a leading source of radical homosexual propaganda, anti-Christian bigotry, and radical transgender advocacy."

He is "praying that Pam Spaulding will "turn away from her wicked and sinful promotion of homosexual behavior." (CCLM's web site, 10/15/07)

Ex-gay "Christian" activist James Hartline on Pam:
"I have been mocked over and over again by ungodly and unprincipled anti-christian lesbians."
(from "Six Years In Sodom: From The Journal Of James Hartline," 9/4/2006, written from the "homosexual stronghold" of Hillcrest in San Diego).

"Pam is a 'twisted lesbian sister' and an 'embittered lesbian' of the 'self-imposed gutteral experiences of the gay ghetto.'" -- 9/5/2008

Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth Against Homosexuality heartily endorses the Blend, calling Pam:

A "vicious anti-Christian lesbian activist."
(Concerned Women for America's radio show [9:15], 1/25/07)

"A nutty lesbian blogger."
(MassResistance radio show [16:25], 2/3/07)

Pam's House Blend always seems to find these sick f*cks. The area of the country she is in? The home state of her wife? I know, they are everywhere. Pam just does such a great job of bringing them out into the light.

Freepers denigrate first serviceman wounded in Iraq

by: Pam Spaulding

Fri Apr 20, 2007 at 11:00:00 AM EDT

The reason? Retired Marine Sgt. Eric Alva is gay and is now speaking out. Here's a man who served his country -- and lost a leg on March 21, 2003 when he tripped a landmine. (Express-News):
This first American serviceman wounded in the war in Iraq told a crowd of a few dozen people in San Antonio on Wednesday that he believes the military's "don't ask, don't tell" policy will be repealed following next year's presidential election.

In his first public address in San Antonio since he disclosed his homosexuality in late February in Washington, retired Marine Sgt. Eric Alva also called on the crowd at Our Lady of the Lake University to support legislation aimed at protecting basic human rights, such as a hate-crimes bill, and the recognition of marriage of gay couples.

"When I went out to war and was finishing 13 years in the United States Marine Corps defending this country, it was for the rights and freedoms of everybody in this country," said Alva, who lives in San Antonio and attends the university. "Not just politicians, not just a certain person of color or a person of a certain culture. It was for everybody."

Now that he is out of the closet and calling for the repeal of Don't Ask, Don't Tell -- and for the passage of more pro-gay legislation as a national spokesman for HRC -- his service is meaningless to the knuckle-dragging keyboard patriots as they tap out their filth. Read what they said after the jump.

Actual Freeper Quotes

What a disgrace to the uniform.

Semper Fruit Mac. (turd burgler alert)

I don't think he's right, but it certainly will be repealed the next time a draft is instituted.

Then they'll demand a Homosexual Draft Exemption.

There was a queer exemption in the old draft.

I don't know why it would be repealed in the event of a draft. General prohibitions against sodomy weres in effect during previous wars; if the behavior manifests itself they're discharged.

I understand. But my point was that when a draft is ever again instituted, everyone and their mother will "tell" that they are gay, and Don't Ask Don't Tell will go out the window.

Hey,not *every* Marine is worthy of respect....Oswald,Murtha,this clown....

Oh, and my husband has said very clearly that he doesn't care if he has 19 years, 11 months and 29 days towards his retirement, the day they allow Marines to be openly homosexual is the day he will leave the Corps.

I won't call this guy a disgrace to the uniform. He gave 13 years of good service to the Corps and spilled his own blood in combat. I don't agree with what he's doing now, but he has certainly earned his right to do whatever he wants.

when interviewed his gay companions said they were stumped?

I get the fact that you don't like gay people. Whatever. But making fun of a wound he suffered on the battlefield? In a war he voluntarily fought in service to his country? You know, it is possible to disagree with someone's politics without mocking their sacrifice to your country.

But they won't get it, and that will be the end to Don't ask, Don't Tell, becasue everyone will be telling.

Sorry Pal, there is no God given or otherwise right to engage in anal sex.

This won't fly with the Marines. Many career Marines will walk away rather than work with gays.

Frankly, this one has me twisting. He's a marine who served his country and lost a leg in the process. He's given more than I (or most here I'd wager) have to serve our country. On the other hand, he's pushing for a Democra# President and pushing an agenda that many servicemembers I know believe would do severe damage to the Corps and the other armed services. The latter outweighs the former, but I'm not going to castigate him for it. Just disagree.

So what makes him the disgrace? His 13 years service? The fact he lost a leg in Iraq? Or his nerve at expressing an opinion you disagree with?

Then don't tell and you won't have a problem. Along broader lines, the introduction/endorsement of homosexual behavior introduces a plethora of questions regarding the military ranging from billeting to how posts will treat the Boy Scout. I'd like to see the answers to those questions before the policy is changed. Personally, I think President Reagan's "We Ask, Don't Join" policy worked just fine.

I do want to make a quick observation. I do feel for this man in a way. He has clearly done his duty, and he has paid a high price. But he is a Sgt. and it says he served 13 years. Thirteen years is the cut off to pick up SSgt. for the up or out policy. I'm curious as to why he hadn't picked up SSgt. If he waited until he was out of the Corps to be open, and he clearly did his part for the Corps in battle, then why no promotion? Just wondering is all.

I won't call this guy a disgrace to the uniform. He gave 13 years of good service to the Corps and spilled his own blood in combat.

You get no flame from me. You are absolutely correct. That Marine demonstrated courage and fidelity to his Nation. For that, we honor him. I do not believe the military is an appropriate setting to push homosexuality, or to permit homosexuals to join, just as I do not wish to see women in combat assignments. But that in no way lessens what this brave man did for his Country.

They're Disgusting
Though surprisingly there were a few that showed some sort of tact in honoring his sacrifice but disagreeing with his position.  But the vast majority of the Freepers have no respect for anyone they disagree with.

DISSECTION
I would really love to dissect all of these freeper comments.  Some of them are alright.  Calmly disagreeing, yet acknowledging Alva's service to our country.

But what really pisses me off is where is the love for the SACRIFICE this man made for his country?  He lost a leg, he is permanantly disabled because of the sacrifice he made for us, and THEM!

Errrg I'm going to stop now.

Wow
Just...wow. I guess I can see why they are so afraid though. It simultaneously shows what cowards these chickenhawks are, while at the same time proving that gay people can be and are true heroes. Must be a real mind fuck.

What the hell was I doing in Oaxaca in 1992, on the eve of the Zapatista revolution?

freeper comments
I find it interesting that one woman said her husband would leave the Marines before serving with gays and another person said a policy change would cause people to leave the armed forces.  I was under the understanding that during a stop gap period, you couldn't merely walk away from service regardless of who you serve with.

In General
You can't just walk away.  Maybe if he's an officer, then he can resign his commission but if he or anyone else is enlisted that would be dessertion.

Yeah, that got me too.
Then again, it also told me that there are those who would walk, indicating once and for all that their real priority is supporting their own homophobia rather than actually serving our country.

Good point
One man loses his leg and risks his life fighting to protect his country, even though that country denies him his civil rights; another deserts because he doesn't like the homos. Who is the patriot?

Made up
A lot of these 101st keyboarders on the Free Republic make sh*t up to bolster their arguments and as per usual, mostly no one calls them on their BS.  Not to mention if you do, you usually get "ZOTted"  which is apparently the sound of lightning striking and rendering your account unable to post replies, or send emails.

For sure
Oh, and my husband has said very clearly that he doesn't care if he has 19 years, 11 months and 29 days towards his retirement, the day they allow Marines to be openly homosexual is the day he will leave the Corps.

I was going to say that it's great to see a swivel chair male in his 20's or 30's so open about having a husband in the Marines.

Freepers are notorious for assuming identities.  How weak is your argument if you need to pretend to be someone else to bolster it?

Electricity's for light bulbs!

"My husband says"
They seem to have a lot of posts that begin with "My husband says". Can conservative women not think without permission? Assuming that it is an assumed identity, is it so unfathomable that a woman could have a career in the military?

Conservative women
Can conservative women not think without permission?

Nope, not from my experience.  Every single conservative woman I know defers to her husband for knowledge and guidance.  The sad thing is, these women ARE educated and work.  Sure, they'd rather go to the country club then head off for a manicure and massage, but they don't and they see the real world everyday.  You'd think that some of it would have opened their minds to think independently, but nope, they don't.  Like their idol Barbara Bush, they don't want to dirty their "pretty minds" with reality.

[ Parent ]
Good point
If they want to pretend, why not write, "My wife, a marine, says..."?  I think we all know the answer, but I hadn't thought of that.  It's sinister and presumptuous, fitting perfectly at the FreeRepublic.

Electricity's for light bulbs!

[ Parent ]
Exactly what I was thinking too!
Interesting that one's patriotism hinges completely on being surrounded by homophobes, homophobic policy, and screeching heterosexuality (whether one truly is hetero or not does not matter).

[ Parent ]
Gay Marines??!
A former colleague of mine, who was a retired Navy dentist (and very straight, which apparently is an oddity in the military's medical corps) told me an old Navy joke:

Q: Why do they have Marines on board ship?
A: Because the sheep made noise.

Now I don't have any hard-and-fast figures, but I do know that in my own anecdotal experience, the rate of military service among gays is far above the rate for straights, and the Marines are reputed to be the gayest branch of them all. My own acquaintances include more former Marines than any other branch of the service, so if these "patriots" think they are not currently serving with gay Marines, they are either in denial or too stupid to be entrusted with the safety of our nation.

Also
Let us not forget those gay and lesbian heroes that lost their lives on 9/11.  As Melissa Etheridge penned about Mark Bingham in her song "Tuesday Morning",
"Can you live with yourself in the land of the free
And make him less of a hero than the other three"

Or if the Freepers knew the Orthodox Church declared openly gay Father Mychal Judge, St. Mychal the Martyr.  Father Mychal used to take monies given to him by conservative groups and give the funds to gay groups.  Now that's heroic!

Sad that Freepers define a hero based on sexual orientation.

I'm glad, in a way ...

Freepers Creepers,
I am waitng for one or a group of these idiots to claim they where in the military to fight for the right to be a homophobe.

If I make sense? it was quite by accident.

Seven or eight years ago...
...I was actually dishing with the scum on FreieRepublic.com, and I got some of them to admit that they would never say anything in public that they posted there.  In other words, most if not all of them, are cowards.  And that's why they are sitting behind a keyboard instead of serving the Green Zone.

Point two.  A friend of ours, a young (straight) guy, had served in the military.  He related the story that it was well known that many of the people in the special forces type units of the US military were--gay.  Did any of their compatriots care?  No.  Did any of their commanding officers care?  No.  They all wanted the job done, and the job done well, and if gay guys (and gals) could do the job well, that's all that they cared about.

Who's Got The Problem?
My civilian job has required me to work with Marines for the past fifteen years, and very closely for the the past three.  I make no secret that I'm gay and couldn't anyway.  Not once in that time have I come across any animosity from these men and women that I have close daily contact with.  They are unfailingly professional and polite and though at times some have seemed wary of me, that in no way affected our working relationship. With some there have even been lighter, more jocular moments though of course nothing intimate.  We've even, at times, joked about my sexuality.

Of course, I've never served in confined quarters or in combat situations with any of these men and women but I have no doubt they'll as fast take a bullet for me as for anyone else.  So for me this begs the question, just who has the problem here?  Because it isn't my Marines.
