| Yesterday's post, Beyond the pale: anti-gay, racist emails from Army recruiter, was apparently really popular around blogtopia. The Blend received almost 40K visits the story was picked up by a lot of blogs, including Daily Kos, Eschaton (Atrios), Crooks & Liars, Think Progress, Andrew Sullivan, Raw Story, CorrenteWire, AlterNet, Shakes Sis, Queerty, Towleroad, and many more.
Oh, btw, you must check out Jesus' General for a good skewering of the winger who tried to spin the recruiter as the victim!
I'm sure that The Frontlines, the blog of Servicemembers Legal Defense Network, probably had a big spike as well. SLDN's director of communications, Steve Ralls, received the original emails from Jersey City resident Corey Andrew and sent them to me; I couldn't believe what I read. Andrew had an unbelievable three-day email exchange with U.S. Army recruiter Sgt. Marcia Ramode, who found his profile and resume posted at Careerbuilder.com and attempted to recruit him by contacting him -- when he told her that he was gay, and as you see below, it went downhill fast.

Click to enlarge (and read and weep again). Here's the PDF of the exchanges.
The story also ended up on Keith Olbermann last night, with U.S. Army recruiter Sgt. Marcia Ramode landing as runner up for "Worst Person in the World" feature.
What's interesting is that most MSM outlets didn't pick up the story at all. WCBS-TV in New York, did, but this was MIA everywhere else.

Another piece that I hope will receive attention is an interview that I'll have up later today with former columnist for the anti-gay American Family Association, Joe Murray. He recently wrote a piece scorching the AFA for supporting General Peter Pace's comments about homosexuality and immorality and for the organization's use of the homo straw man tirelessly as a fundraising tool.
Murray has a lot of eye-opening things to share about the thinking inside the AFA, so check back here a later this AM. |
