Blend-o-licious endorsements...

The Christian Civic League of Maine's Mike Hein calls Pam's House Blend:
"a leading source of radical homosexual propaganda, anti-Christian bigotry, and radical transgender advocacy."

He is "praying that Pam Spaulding will "turn away from her wicked and sinful promotion of homosexual behavior." (CCLM's web site, 10/15/07)

Ex-gay "Christian" activist James Hartline on Pam:
"I have been mocked over and over again by ungodly and unprincipled anti-christian lesbians."
(from "Six Years In Sodom: From The Journal Of James Hartline," 9/4/2006, written from the "homosexual stronghold" of Hillcrest in San Diego).

"Pam is a 'twisted lesbian sister' and an 'embittered lesbian' of the 'self-imposed gutteral experiences of the gay ghetto.'" -- 9/5/2008

Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth Against Homosexuality heartily endorses the Blend, calling Pam:

A "vicious anti-Christian lesbian activist."
(Concerned Women for America's radio show [9:15], 1/25/07)

"A nutty lesbian blogger."
(MassResistance radio show [16:25], 2/3/07)

Pam's House Blend always seems to find these sick f*cks. The area of the country she is in? The home state of her wife? I know, they are everywhere. Pam just does such a great job of bringing them out into the light.

First 'No On 1' Ads Starting To Air In Maine

by: Louise

Thu Sep 03, 2009 at 13:33:33 PM EDT

Please pass this along to Mainers on your lists of contacts: we're trying to get 5000 people to pledge to Vote No On 1 by next Monday, Labor Day. Thanks! :)

~Louise~

-----------------------------------------------

I come bearing brand-new television ads, folks!

First, this press release from No On 1's Jesse Connolly:

Dear Louise,

Our first campaign ads hit the airwaves today and I want you to be one of the first to see them!

One tells the story of Sam Putnam of Portland, who plays high school football and baseball, and is the pride and joy of his mother, Jennifer and her partner, Michelle. For Sam, it's pretty basic -- this is his family and he wants them to be valued and treated equally in Maine.

Please, share Sam's story with your friends and neighbors.

Our second spot introduces Bill Whitten of Yarmouth, a former college football player and U.S. Marine.  Bill has two daughters -- one gay and one straight.  For Bill, it's simple -- he wants both his girls treated fairly and equally, and that includes marrying the person they love.

Please, share Bill's story with your friends and neighbors.

Bill Whitten's story, like thousands of others, drives home what most Mainers believe -- that everyone should be allowed to live their lives and treated fairly.

These are the real Maine stories we need to share across the state, but we need your help.

Thank you for your support.

Jesse Connolly
Campaign Manager
NO on 1 / Protect Maine Equality

And now the ads!

The first: "Sam Putnam"

Please help keep Sam's story on the airwaves in Maine!

The second: "Bill Whitten".

Good ads! :)
I hope they do similar ones with the senior war vet or the man from the NAACP from the public hearings.

Transcripts
Ad 1>>
Sam:  I'm Sam Putnam, I have two moms.  We are an average family.  I consider my mom's partner my step mom, but society doesn't.  My school doesn't, my doctor doesn't, sometimes my friend's parents don't either.  My family doesn't mean to other people what it means to me.

Mom: We're just like a lot of other families in Maine, um, we have our ups and downs.  And we stick together and we love eachother.

Sam:  We can't be seen as lesser, and if you vote no then it'll help change that.  Please do the right thing.

Ad 2>>

I have two daughters, the older one is straight the younger one is gay.  I was captain of the football and baseball teams, then I went to the University of Maine and played college football for a while.  After college, I joined the Marine Corps.  It's so important that people just look at other people not what they are, but who they are.  I've been through a transition and I'm just much more accepting of everybody.  Everyone should be allowed to live the way they want to live.

Yes!
How hard would it be to add Closed Captioning

[ Parent ]
Closed captioning is automatic in Maine on cable

When you mute, the words automatically scroll - at least on Time Warner.

Nifty, eh?

Question:  What does an atheist do when they fall to the floor and start "speaking in tongues"?

Answer: Get a CAT scan.

[ Parent ]
But, that doesn't translate to Youtube.
It needs to be transcripted and added manually.  It's not really that difficult, just takes a little time.

[ Parent ]
Great idea
I'm sure they'd be thrilled if you volunteered your services.

[ Parent ]
I would
but I need the videos owner to upload the subtitles file.  not something I can just do as a viewer.

But I'm willing to help as I can, even if it is posting it in a comment.

[ Parent ]
Email the No On 1 campaign, please
It's an excellent idea and would reach a larger audience!

Just click on the green "No On 1" image at the top of this post and it'll get you to their site. :)

"It goes on one at a time, it starts when you care to act, it starts when you do it again after they said no, it starts when you say We and know who you mean, and each day you mean one more."

[ Parent ]
well certainly...
I just finished making the subtitle files.. I'll email No On 1 and see if they want them.

It's a no-brainer on their part... wouldn't see why they'd refuse a little free work.

[ Parent ]
Excellent ads ....
but please be prepared for the ugly mudslinging ads NOM and Schubert-Flint will be airing about the impact of GAY MARRIAGE on the children.  [Young girl to Mother} "Mom, guess what I learned in school today?  A prince can marry a prince and I can marry a princess."  These ads had a huge impact in swaying the opinions of brainless airheads voters in California.

http://www.protectmarriage.com...

After their loss in Iowa, NOM will be more determined to see marriage equality defeated in Maine.

September 14
the the day I've heard that theirs will start to run; my apologies if this is not accurate information.

What this does is allow for No On 1 to "buy up" valuable slots to saturate the airwaves with their ads; raising money to do that is more crucial now than ever before.

"It goes on one at a time, it starts when you care to act, it starts when you do it again after they said no, it starts when you say We and know who you mean, and each day you mean one more."

[ Parent ]
The date is not important
The No on 1 campaign needs to have ads ready to go within 24 hours to counter the fearful ads the Yes campaign will be doing.  The California No on 8 campaign did a very poor job of this with weak ads from the State Superintendent of Schools.

I have confidence that Mainers will not be swayed by the fear mongering of Schubert-Flint's media blitz.  For those who haven't contributed to No on 1, please do! Again and again and again.  The citizens of Maine need to have their fairness upheld; not hate and discrimination dictated by out-of-staters.

[ Parent ]
Just read on Facebook
where kids as young as 11 and people as old as 88 are volunteering their time!

My gosh; that is INCREDIBLE. The grassroots efforts and dedication of my fellow Mainers is both gratifying (as I believe so very much in their sense of fairness, comapassiona and human decency!) and mind-blowing.

"It goes on one at a time, it starts when you care to act, it starts when you do it again after they said no, it starts when you say We and know who you mean, and each day you mean one more."

[ Parent ]
I like the way they are asking for donations
Please, help keep Sam's story on the air:

$1,000 helps Sam's story reach 500 voters.

$500 helps Sam's story reach 250 voters.

$100 helps Sam's story reach 50 voters.

Every dollar you give is more voters that will hear Sam's amazing story. Please, give generously.

I remember e-mailing them a while back a suggestion to say that I liked ads I saw in the No on 8 campaign that said "donate to put THIS ad" on tv.  It just makes the donation's results feel much more tangible.

Excellent...again!
And I bet no actors were paid or harmed in the making of these ads.  :-)

These are exactly the type of ads that I was hoping for!  Warm, heart-felt, local folks stating their case with dignity.  The anticipated NOM ads will look and be so contrived in comparison.  Mainers can't help but notice the contrast.

Facebook
I've added this link to my Facebook page, and I hope the rest of you will too. :)

"Why Martha!  Your Sunday chapel dress!"

Great ads, but I have one question
These are very good ads for the first wave.  They work nicely with the other ad that was funded by two independent groups.  The Sam Putnam ad by far the better of the two, IMO, and I think it begins to inoculate against the public school nonsense that will be the feature of the Yes on 1 ads.  All in all, this is very encouraging.

My only question is why the ads don't end on a very clear "Vote No on 1" line.  The Putnam ad has him saying it, although the ad doesn't end with it, which is unusual.  The Whitten ad doesn't have it at all.  I find this curious and I would imagine someone made the decision to go this route.

I guess we get to see the other side's ads sometime after Labor Day.  I won't be able to watch them on a full stomach.

On second thought, I really don't think the Whitten ad is that great
Why?  It doesn't discuss marriage or the importance of marriage for Whitten's daughter, or for his straight daughter come to think of it.  Instead, the ad talks about people being able to live however they want to live.

That's great and all, but that is not really the argument for marriage equality.  Not all living arrangements have to be treated equally and No on 1 is not arguing that they should.  No on 1 is saying that we are entitled to join the institution of marriage, and assume all the rights and responsibilities that go with it.

Anyway, I hope they go primarily with the excellent Putnam ad or else cut another version of Whitten.

[ Parent ]
I worry about that too.
I volunteered outside polling place in CA on election day, and discovered that a lot of people didn't know that voting "No" meant you wanted to keep same-sex marriage.

[ Parent ]
Ads
The reason an ad may not mention the No on 1 campaign is that the part of the group that produced it may be a 501c(3)instead of a 501c(4).  If their listed goal is education they can only spend a certain percent of their revenue on non-education things.  And let's face it, the goal of the ads is to educate the public so they won't take marriage away.  We've got to keep in mind that people still need to be educated on the issue.  Once they fully understand and get over their fear the majority of them will vote the right way.

[ Parent ]
That was true of the very first ad that ran
The one that showed a series of Maine families and aired about a week ago.  Very well-done ad that worked nicely as an introduction to the issue.  That ad was created by 501c3 entities and thus had no mention of Question 1 at all.

But these ads come from No on 1 itself.  The campaign operation.  So I am pretty sure they can say "Vote No on 1".  And Sam Putnam does so, only not at the very end of the ad.

My best guess is that they wanted to tone that down for this first wave and just have it be Mainers talking to Mainers.  I'd be surprised if we don't hear "Vote No on 1" in the second wave.

BTW, isn't it nice that we don't have to pay actors $500/day to read from a script written by a California PR firm?  No paid actor could do better than Putnam and his moms.

[ Parent ]
Much Better Than The No On 8 Ads!
I liked the Sam Putnam video best. Since it actually featured Sam Putnam and his moms in their own words.

The second video with Bill Whitten was ok, but why hold a picture of your lesbian daughter?

Why not have her there, in person, right next to her proud daddy?!? With her girlfriend or partner? This was just too skiddish, just like Prop. 8 was.

Don't make the same mistakes as No on 8! Be OUT! Be PROUD! Be VISIBLE!

If gays themselves aren't shouting OUT for their Equal Rights, why should the voters give them to us!?

Granted, this SHOULD NEVER have been put to a vote! But, there you have it!

"Every time an ambulance passes it is either someone who opposes gay rights dying or someone who supports them being born."
~ Christopher Hayes

For everyone who likes the Putnam video
if you can afford to donate, even if its a small amount.  Maybe if they see many people donating through that ad's link, they'll be more likely to push it.

What have you done today, to make ya feel PROUD?
