Blend-o-licious endorsements...

The Christian Civic League of Maine's Mike Hein calls Pam's House Blend:
"a leading source of radical homosexual propaganda, anti-Christian bigotry, and radical transgender advocacy."

He is "praying that Pam Spaulding will "turn away from her wicked and sinful promotion of homosexual behavior." (CCLM's web site, 10/15/07)

Ex-gay "Christian" activist James Hartline on Pam:
"I have been mocked over and over again by ungodly and unprincipled anti-christian lesbians."
(from "Six Years In Sodom: From The Journal Of James Hartline," 9/4/2006, written from the "homosexual stronghold" of Hillcrest in San Diego).

"Pam is a 'twisted lesbian sister' and an 'embittered lesbian' of the 'self-imposed gutteral experiences of the gay ghetto.'" -- 9/5/2008

Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth Against Homosexuality heartily endorses the Blend, calling Pam:

A "vicious anti-Christian lesbian activist."
(Concerned Women for America's radio show [9:15], 1/25/07)

"A nutty lesbian blogger."
(MassResistance radio show [16:25], 2/3/07)

Pam's House Blend always seems to find these sick f*cks. The area of the country she is in? The home state of her wife? I know, they are everywhere. Pam just does such a great job of bringing them out into the light.

Autumn to appear on KRXQ to discuss your impact on The Rob, Arnie and Dawn Show

by: Pam Spaulding

Mon Jun 08, 2009 at 21:15:00 PM EDT

KRXQ's morning crew, The Rob, Arnie and Dawn Show, thought it was knee-slapping funny to advocate child abuse of transgender children during a discussion about a an Omaha family supporting their transgender child and her transition. The hosts refused to apologize for it, and then they learned a tough lesson when 11 major advertisers pulled their contracts from KRXQ because of blogging here at PHB, and your calls.

On Thursday (June 11 at 7:30 AM PST), Trans Youth Family Allies Executive Director Kim Pearson and Blend barista Autumn Sandeen, who was leading the charge on this story (along with HuffPost's blogger Michael Rowe), are going on air, at the invitation of the station,  to discuss the issue. GLAAD has been on top of this and helped facilitate (with your help via calls to advertisers and the station) this development. (GLAADBlog):

KRXQ has assured us that the June 11th follow-up show will be conducted in a "frank and positive manner." It was explicitly stated to us that we will hear an apology from the radio hosts and listeners will be able to call in. As always, we remind everyone to be respectful and civil when calling into the show.

GLAAD has additionally suggested a transgender media training with our community partners. KRXQ was receptive to the suggestion and we will further discuss this following Thursday's radio broadcast.

Media have been continuing to follow the story, garnering national coverage. Local media outlets in Sacramento have been especially helpful in covering this story - including The Sacramento Press, FOX40 and The Sacramento Bee. Community blogs have also been extremely effective in sharing updates on this issue and mobilizing readers to take action.

I spoke with Autumn today while she was on the road. She noted that this quick response by KRXQ to the situation is due to the power of the Internet - this was a story not covered by our orgs, most LGBT blogs or major media until activism caught fire -- and yet advertisers were still contacted by enough of you to make this station buckle. Rob Williams and Arnie States might have thought they were having a grand old time on the air, but they realized you all meant business once their paychecks were on the line.

Wow!
Good luck.  I'm sure you (Autumn) will do great job!

Blogs? We don't need no stinking blogs!
Well, actually we do of course.

this was a story not covered by our orgs, most LGBT blogs or major media until activism caught fire -- and yet advertisers were still contacted by enough of you to make this station buckle

Shameless plug for what I noticed last nite:  http://endablog.wordpress.com/...

More importantly: Major kudos yet again to Autumn!

I am glad Atumn was given the credit as a MAJOR force on this story
I am concerned by a quote on tips-Q of GLAAD's President mentioning future broadcasts of RAD, after Thursday. On the GLAAD update the station offered NO APOLOGY, and said nothing about whether Rob and Arnie are staying or leaving.
So I have been continuing to write the remaining sponsors to drop their sponsorship

I watched a particularly RACIST video of these human refuse with Rob impersonating a Black caller TYRONE. They'd need five more years in school before this would rank as sophmoric, and every,,,,I mean EVERY stereotype of Blacks was spewed in about a 5 minute bit..

Alligator Tears
There is no apology that these idiots could make that would ever have any meaning. Before their sponsors bolted, they were completely unapologetic. They're only doing this now because they are hemorrhaging money.

I say bleed em to death. Keep the pressure on them, long and hard, and run them off the airwaves. Make an example out of them-check to see who is sponsoring them at any point, and then call that sponsor and ask them how comfortable they are with being the official corporate sponsor of child abuse.

Any adult that hits a child deserves to get their ass kicked in my someone alot bigger and stronger than they themselves are, so they understand the feeling of helplessness involved in that. For people that advocate child abuse, these people should be publicly shamed every time they set foot in public.

Short of murder, child abuse or physical abuse of anyone who is smaller and weaker physically or mentally speaking is the worst thing a person can do.

My dad was a steelworker
My mom was a kitchen girl
and that's why
I'm a socialist.
-from an old song I used to hum to myself

I am with you to a point
  I 100% agree any type of child abuse is wrong and should be punished.  But there is a part of me that believes people can change for the better.  Call me a sucker sometimes but I always look for the best in everyone.  Although I have to admit there are times I come up empty.

 I am not sure if I will be able to listen come Thursday, but I am sure there will be comments regarding what takes place.

 I can't remember the guy's name, he has been on Rachel Maddow a few times since the Dr. Tiller Assassination.  He used to be a hard line anti-abortionist.  He now sees the error and terror of those ways.  I can only hope that these people have the same thing happen.

 It is one thing I have learned.  Not everyone who is against LGBT rights has a complete change of heart and becomes an advocate, but they might not vote against us ever again, and that is fine by me.

If I make sense? it was quite by accident.

[ Parent ]
Yes
The abuse goes on well into adulthood and years after the actual events. And can be upsetting when one reads stories later on, especially of others ADVOCATING violence or abuse against a child.

For anyone else for whom these past days were triggering, big hugs.

Once again
Once again Autumn goes into the belly of the beast.  I don't know what it is, but  she has the ability to keep the focus where it needs to be. Thanks.

good luck Autumn!
When do you get your own morning show? That's a show I'd listen to daily!!

Autumn
I don't envy you facing the callers this show attracts, (I've read their posts on Sacramento Bee and HuffPo) and quite frankly being in a room with Arnie would give me SERIOUS icks.
No matter what is said to you, you can bring this back to their choosing to dump their hate on a CHILD, there is no moral stance to argue for that. Bringing up 11 MAJOR corporations sided against them, is the nail in their coffin. Let no sobbing or pleas for tollerance or mercy play on your emotions, they gave none to the kids they harmed.

My Comment Response
I wrote this up today and have it saved so I can easily paste to different comment boards.

To fellow RAD family members who are upset at what they feel is Rob's "selling out" or expressing capitulation: as Rob has said to us in times past, I think you are "Allowing your passion to override your empathy."

I've had the opportunity to hear stories of surviving abuse by transgender individuals.  Of being beaten severely, at four, for doing nothing more than wearing an oversize t-shirt like a dress.  Of living every every moment in constant fear of the next attack.  The transgender community is one having the mark of being survivors of wide spread child abuse, that faces assault and murder constantly, and has to face friends killing themselves on a near daily basis.  Rob used the "Silent Epidemic" segment to express his rage for what is being done to children outside of our attention. What transgender children have faced may be called a "Silent Holocaust" without much exaggeration.

This isn't about "selling out," this is about the fact that Rob has been a person who has pointed out how society treats its most vulnerable and how that is largely what makes him hate "people."  He also has a deep loathing for willful ignorance.  That day he totally betrayed his belief in the former and in his response expressed the later.  This is about Rob facing the fact he failed what he believed in the most.  The fact he didn't mean to be interpreted as advocating child abuse nor would never abuse a child does not negate that.  What we feel are real and legitimate differences with the way the LGBT community went about telling us doesn't negate that either.  In the end our beliefs in freedom of speech and that there is "no right to be offended" can't be done the justice they deserve if we allow ourselves to present ourselves as if our opinion allowed the innocence and dignity of children to have an "except when..."

[ Parent ]
Autumn, have you done this kind of thing before?
You are going on their show, with their agenda, and in front of their loyal listening audience, who may enjoy hearing talk that some find offensive. Are you prepared for things to go horribly wrong in a hurry? Are there safeguards in place to ensure that things remain on a civil and respectful basis -- other than statements from Rob and Arnie? And even if the show seems positive, what is said on Thursday could be twisted by them (and others?) later and used against you. (Of course that will probably happen no matter what happens during the show.)

You have made a commitment, so win or lose, the show must go on with you there. Just please get a quick cram course from some media-savvy experts and shock jock "victims" to prepare you before you go on their show.

Good luck, Autumn. I hope you will not need it.

One possible scenario...
Rob and Arnie start the show seemingly contrite, humble, and sincerely wanting to learn and understand our point of view. Autumn relaxes, talks freely, and lets down her guard. Then they start fielding calls from their listeners (screened by one of their people?).

Maybe they use a couple of shills to call in early with negative, but still respectful, remarks to get the ball rolling their predetermined direction -- i.e. pro-them and anti-us. The bigots listening get encouraged, call in with more emotional responses, and things get heated and go downhill. (See some of the flame wars at the Blend for examples of how easily it can happen without shills.) Pro-transgender calls are in the minority and lost in the groundswell of opposing opinions. Rob and Arnie end up vindicated as "martyrs to humorless, intolerant, mentally disturbed people pushing an abhorrent agenda on decent citizens."

Or maybe their listeners give issues careful thought and base their ideas on fact and solid reasoning. Perhaps their Thursday program will be a model of enlightenment and social progress for others to cite and emulate.

[ Parent ]
Maybe as a failsafe for Autumn
The minute they open her mic, announce this ISN'T about me, I was invited as a guest to this show, any disrespect or sabotage, and I LEAVE.

Autumn is going to be incredible.  And she'll have Kim Pearson (the media-savvy expert) to watch her back.

Besides, if they later twist what was said or slide back to their old habits, we go after the parent company.  There is no excuse for the things they said.  None.  I know of no corporation that would be willing to stick up for the damage they did.

I don't think I'll be able to listen Thursday
We are helping on a huge wedding a friend has designed,(he works with us and we return the favor.) So until Saturday night I'll be scarce.
I hope the audio will be recorded, so I can listen later.

I posted this at Sacramento Press, answering a neanderthal defending RAD show
"When thugs, even government sanctioned thugs have used their powers against innocent children America has again and again risen above this, and said NO.
Whether it was Black children they used firehouses and police dogs to attack, or blowing up churches killing little girls, or Japanese second and third generations thrown in Concentraion CAMPS, or "Protectors of children" from online predators caught harrassing Congressional pages, or alter boys or Boy Scouts raped by those the family TRUSTED, or the venom hurled at Ryan White when he was banned from schools, and his parents got death threats, or villages of children burnt with Napalm, or White Phosphorous, or ground water or lead paint toys poisoning kids.
WE DRAW A LINE...you DONT CROSS, and America changes."

from HuffPo
U.C. Davis has sent out messages that they don't condone the speech and will not willingly sponsor intolerance or abuse of any kind. They haven't decided what to do about their relationship with the station yet. Your thoughts may be helpful to them.

Contact their public affairs office: http://www.ucdmc.ucdavis.edu/n...

Given that the show justifies their actions by saying they raise money for this hospital, effectively using the hospital as a shield from any criticism they receive, losing this sponsor would be a powerful blow. If they are remotely serious about the charities they do support, this may lead to a real wake-up call.

I hope they join the boycott.

meko is the poster, she has done a lot from GLAAD updates and updating sponsor lists.

good list
but a little outdated. Washington Mutual has been out of biz for months (now Chase), and as far as I can remember, Mervyn's went bankrupt a couple years ago.

I'm surprised to still see Jared (a reminder to all of us who will be shopping for engagement/wedding rings shortly), and of all things Late Night with Jimmy Fallon on this list. But then again there's Purina and Red Bull. I wrack my brain trying to think of any Purina radio commercial. Tava could be many things, but I'll assume it's the Pepsico brand.

It's hard to say since the website was washed of the sponsor list, and it was perhaps outdated to begin with. . .I recall they had Albertsons (grocery chain) on the list, and the company said they had nothing to do with KRXQ for years.

[ Parent ]
HERE are the EX sponsors
Sleep Train pulled their sponsorship today. State Farm sent out the message that they hadn't yet had any ads on KRXQ this year, and after the show they're not going to.

So the boycott now includes:
* Sleep Train
* Guitar Center
* State Farm Insurance (hadn't advertised in over a year and demanded that the station remove their logo from its website)
* Albertsons (hasn't advertised in a few years and has asked the station to remove them from the list of advertisers)
* Chipotle
* Snapple
* Sonic
* Bank of America
* Verizon
* Carl"s Jr (CKE Restaurants)
* Wells Fargo
* Nissan North America
* AT&T
* McDonald"s

just grabbed the wrong list earlier...sorry

sigh
well, my post above is now outdated as well. . .It is interesting that if you go to the main page "krxq.net", that it now defaults to the RAD letter with a link to "Go To KRXQ.NET".

Also,
I did hear back with and "auto reply" from the station.

Thank you for your feedback regarding the May 28th and June 3rd, 2009 broadcasts of "The Rob, Arnie and Dawn Show." I understand the seriousness of the issue, and want to share with you a copy of a notice that has been posted on our website, www.krxq.net.

During these shows, Rob and Arnie made what we, and they, recognize were completely unacceptable remarks concerning members of the transgender community, especially children. Accordingly, this Thursday, June 11th, 2009, the show will be dedicated to what we anticipate will be a forum to promote a better understanding among all listeners of the issues involved.

John D. Geary

Vice President / General Manager

I'll assume they didn't bother to read my letter out of the many, but got the message regardless.

GO US!

I got the same form letter, and you couldn't reply, but I have the email addy
I wrote Mr. Geary.....

"Mr Geary Vice President/General manager sent me a form letter, here's my response

"Mr. Geary, I appreciate your responding to my email. The GLAAD update    http://glaadblog.org/2009/06/0... Mentions Autumn Sandeen possibly being a part of Thursday's show....which she deserves. Your station's representative made NO APOLOGY, and made NO mention if the RAD show is staying or going. Unless Rob and Arnie are fired, and the station makes an unequivocal apology of how foul and cruel this program was to children, and that the station will guarantee it NEVER happens again, I will DOUBLE my efforts writing and calling your remaining sponsors to join the Boycott. Stopping an advertiser from leaving is much easier than to try to attract back a sponsor who's left in DISGUST."

Here's a response i got from Home Depot
The Home Depot is neither a sponsor nor has it committed advertising to this program. However, our ads are occasionally heard on KRXQ as part of a national radio buy. We have shared your feedback about the morning program with the network and the station directly, and have asked them to look more closely at where our ads are running to ensure they are in accordance with our standards.

We have strict guidelines in place to ensure the programs we support reflect the quality of our brand. Our advertising campaigns have one simple objective -- to communicate with audiences in the most effective way possible. Feedback from customers like you plays a large role in helping us to maintain these standards.

Thank you for your interest in The Home Depot.

I also got a nice response from Sleep train who are observing the boycott

"race, taste. and History finally overcome....and you ain't there"

having worked
in ad buys for years, I know how the blanket buys work. A corporation can opt out of any specific station or program.

I came across this exact situation when I took over marketing for a company that unknowingly had ads placed with the "Dr.Laura" show to the consternation of several customers. . .The answer from the rep was an "all or nothing" attitude. . .I said okay, "nothing" and their attitude changed very quickly.

[ Parent ]
But they've done all this before
My concern is that everyone is being played by the Rob, Arnie and Dawn Show.

They've gone through all this controversy before.  Once when they were mocking SIDS babies, again after the child molestation skit that got them their FCC fines.  Each time, the said it was a joke, then when the fuss got loud enough they had a show where they squeezed out a few crocodile tears and gave 2 hours to someone from the cause to express their viewpoint.  After a week or so they returned to their old routine.

Many believe the FCC incident was about ratings, especially because the big apology show DID increase ratings, and they did very well in their contract talks afterward.

They did schedule this for Thursday, the most important day of the week from an Arbitron ratings point of view.

So I hope there is a strategy.  I hope, after all the time people put in, they don't just end up donating $20,000 to charity and getting $2 million dollar raises out if it.  Because that will only encourage more of the same in every market.

That...
...is exactly what is happening.

The only thing left now is to try and use them while they use you.

Are you talking about what it is you know, or just repeating what it was you heard?

Grace Slick

www.anonymous-t-girl.blogspot.com

[ Parent ]
Firing them would be better
They'll just start again in a month after GLAAD saves them from this round.  But if they lose the show, it'll lead to some serious reflection nationwide.  Also, they won't be on the air anymore.

Otherwise, just get them to donate as much money as you can.

[ Parent ]
Good point, Anonymous T-Girl!
Boycotting w/ explanation and having representation on the show holds the possibility of educating even just a few people.
Net gain: at worst, a few people educated.  At best, more than a few people educated.

The alternative is not boycotting nor using their show as a public forum.
Net gain:  zero people educated.

Either way, those who would refuse to drop their fears and learn are already extreme in their thought.

Fighting for trans equality is a mix of education and refusing to submit or settle for less than what we deserve.  We react to attacks in a positive way and reach out to educate czawhenever we can find the opportunity can or make one.  And our strategy is working.

[ Parent ]
Another alternative is not ending a boycott just because of a fake apology
I think that giving them the cover they need to continue doesn't really help much.  They've played the crocodile tears game before, after the SIDS baby jokes, after the child molestation jokes that got them their FCC fine, they went back to the same routine after a week or two.

Their ratings were dropping before the FCC incident, but they got lots of attention for their apology, ratings went up temporarily, and they got a nice fat raise.

There is every reason to believe are doing it again:  http://www.sacbee.com/breton/s...

So what's the message?  If you' are shock jocks with dwindling ratings, say the most evil thing you can think of, GLAAD will get you national attention, and then for 2 hours of airtime spent apologizing you'll get a $2 million bump on your next contract.  I think a lot of shows will take that deal.

I just hope GLAAD follows the example of UC Davis Medical and doesn't give them cover just because they make a donation.  That hospital gave up a $126,000 fundraiser to support the cause.  Don't sell out for less.

[ Parent ]
I don't know how many advertisers they lost in previous incidents
About thirteen major advertisers have WALKED and trying to coax them back in a lousy economy isn't going to be simple.

I also don't know how extensive the National attention the other incidents provoked, they definitely got a national big brother watching them now, and their station.

I made no secret, I want Rob and Arnie fired, I don't think allowing them a third strike is wise. The are human refuse, vomitous to their core. The racist cr*p I watched made Limbaugh look like an NAACP member.

good article on KRXQ
Shock jocks target defenseless children
Written by Ashley Centers - Summer Arg
Tuesday, 09 June 2009
Long gone are the innocent and carefree days of childhood. Instead of spending long summer days riding bikes and eating ice cream, children and teens today are defending themselves, their lifestyles and actions against adults who have nothing better to do than pick on children, adults who have no morals or
no ethics.
Most of all, these children - children who have the biggest hearts - are defending themselves against people with no heart; people like KRXQ Sacramento radio hosts Rob Williams and Arnie States. Williams and States are two-thirds of a San Fransisco talk radio show called "KRXQ 98.5 FM Sacramento's Rob, Arnie, & Dawn in the Morning." On May 28 States and Williams dedicated a full 30 minutes to viciously attacking transgendered children, some as young as five years old, and their supportive families.

Williams and States took turns calling gender dysphoric children and teens "idiots" and "freaks" and further hurting their psyche and perhaps giving them a complex they neither deserve nor want.

They even suggested that instead of supporting and trying to understand these children, parents should do their best to "get it out of them" by verbal abuse or shock therapy.

Oh, the horror. A person is transgendered or sexually confused.

Big deal. They still deserve the same respect and rights as the rest of us.

They are still human.
